Senator Blackburn Visits Cookeville Police Department at New State-of-the-Art Police Station to Help Combat Crime

President Trump has taken decisive action to stand up for law enforcement and restore the rule of law in communities across the nation. As Democrats in blue cities and states push soft-on-crime agendas at the expense of keeping their citizens safe, Senator Blackburn has led several legislative initiatives to support President Trump’s Make America Safe Again agenda. If Democrats won’t keep the people they swore an oath to protect safe, President Trump and Republicans will.

What Senator Blackburn Is Doing To Stop Violent Crime

Senator Blackburn introduced the Keep Violent Criminals Off Our Streets Act and the Ending Cashless Bail in Our Nation’s Capital Act to ban federal funds to states and localities that limit the use of cash bail and ban cashless bail in Washington, D.C. Both bills are backed by the Trump administration. She also introduced the Restoring Law and Order Act to increase funding for law enforcement and help keep violent criminals behind bars. Her Restoring the Armed Career Criminal Act would reinstate the minimum 15-year prison sentence for felons convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm who have three prior state or federal convictions for serious felonies.

Senator Blackburn played an instrumental role in the creation of President Trump’s Memphis Safe Task Force to restore law and order through coordinated federal, state, and local efforts. She led a resolution in 2024 urging the future presidential administration to implement a violent crime initiative modeled after the successful Operation Legend from the first Trump administration. Her early leadership on the resolution laid important groundwork for the Memphis Safe Task Force and similar efforts to restore safety. She joined President Trump at the White House when the Memphis Safe Task Force was first announced, and she later attended a roundtable in Memphis to celebrate the tremendous success of the task force during its first six months.

Tragically, much of the crime committed in Memphis is driven by juvenile offenders, who are committing more and more aggravated assaults, robberies, and carjackings against innocent city residents. Across the country, 64% of violent juvenile crime happens on school days, peaking between 2 and 6PM.

To help combat juvenile crime, Senator Blackburn introduced the bipartisan AFTER SCHOOL Act, which would establish a grant program for local communities to establish, maintain, and strengthen after school programs with the goal of reducing violent crime among juveniles. She also filed the Federal Carjacking Enforcement Act to remove barriers to bringing federal prosecutions. Her Violent Juvenile Offender Accountability Act would make it easier to bring federal criminal charges against certain violent juvenile offenders who are over the age of 16.
