A quality education is needed to prepare every student in Tennessee for the opportunities and challenges of life in the 21st century. Education should help students gain the skills they need for whatever path they choose. Tennessee’s great teachers know their students and help them overcome challenges. State and local officials, working with Tennessee’s teachers, can best lead Tennessee’s education system. The federal government, with national standards and bureaucratic paperwork, should let states innovate and provide common-sense solutions. I will work to expand school choice, so that parents can choose the education that best prepares their child.
