Senator Blackburn Reaffirms Taiwan is a Country at Hudson Institute

May 15, 2024

Today, U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) joined the Hudson Institute to discuss the threats the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) poses to U.S. national security, the importance of Taiwan’s independence, and her Taiwan Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act to bolster Taiwan’s defense.

Blackburn On Taiwan’s Independence:

“In 2022, I was so pleased to be in Taipei and to meet with President Tsai to reaffirm America’s determination to help Taiwan and other partners in the Indo-Pacific. During the meeting, I stated what should be the obvious: Taiwan is a country.” – Senator Blackburn

Blackburn On CCP’s Anti-Secession Law:

“The law is nothing more than a pretext for China to launch an armed invasion against a peaceful Taiwan. Of course, China is not ruled by laws; it is ruled by the whims of the Chinese Communist Party.” – Senator Blackburn
