ICYMI: Blackburn Hosts Tennessee Financial and Technology Innovation Roundtable

NASHVILLE, TENN. – U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) hosted a roundtable in Nashville, Tennessee with two dozen financial and technology leaders to discuss financial innovation, improving healthcare outcomes for Tennesseans, and increasing workforce participation. 

 


“Tennessee is number one in the southeast for headquarters, finance, and tech job growth since 2011,” said Senator Blackburn. “As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, I believe it’s important to hear from innovators about their work and to collaborate on policies that encourage financial prosperity and new developments in the Volunteer State. Yesterday, we discussed ways that we can keep our state well-positioned for innovation in every sector – from health care to retail to music.”

Senator Blackburn was joined by leaders from the financial, energy, technology, education, and health sectors, including:

  • Stuart McWhorter, Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner;
  • Colin Barrett, President and CEO of the Tennessee Bankers Association;
  • Brian Morgenstern, Head of Public Policy for Riot Platforms – one of the largest U.S.-based publicly-traded Bitcoin miners in North America;
  • Mandy Gunasekara, Former Chief of Staff for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA);
  • Wade Peery, Chief Innovations Officer for FirstBank;
  • Ron Shultis, Director of Policy and Research for the Beacon Center of Tennessee; and
  • Peter Marcum, Founding Partner of DevDigital.
